The Greatest Expectations

February 1, 2015

Dear Emily Rose,

Right now, your mom is 30 weeks pregnant, which means that you are getting bigger and stronger in your mom's belly every day! Since we found out that you were on the way we have been so excited to hear about every part of your journey into this world. You are not even here yet, but you are so loved, and we can't wait to hold you in our arms and keep you warm, secure and protected.

Babies are always good news, and babies are wonderful blessings. You are a great blessing to this world, and especially to your family. You are so loved, little one, and I plan to capture your story on this blog so that you will always know who you are and how you came to be.

Because of you, I will become a Nana for the first time ever. I've been a mom for almost my whole life, and I have loved every moment with my girls, but I've never been a Nana before, and that makes you so special. I look forward to being a Nana. Deb is going to be Moppa, or Papa Deb, we aren't sure yet what you will call her, but we are both excited to be a special part of your life, and we will always love you, no matter what.

We live in Wisconsin right now, which is far away from you and your mom. We hope to be able to get closer to you as soon as possible, but it may take some time. We want you to know that we are working hard to get close to you and your mom so that we can be a big part of your life.

Right now, we are planning for your mom's baby shower. Family and friends will gather together to celebrate your arrival, and your mom will receive many gifts to help her take good care of you. I will be flying on an airplane to come to the shower, and I will fly back home a few days later. It will be a fun day, but not nearly as fun as when your mom is ready to deliver you into the world.

I can't wait to see you when you are a newborn. I can see you already, and smell your baby scent on your hair and your clothes, like powder, soap and baby smell. It's the best smell in the world. I will sing to you, the old Irish songs passed down from my parents, and I will help to teach you some of the traditions that we follow in our family. Most of all, I just want to hold you close and make you feel safe and loved.

You are so lucky to have your mom. She is a truly wonderful person; smart, funny, and beautiful always. She is going to take very good care of you, and someday you will take care of her. I guess that's all for now, but we will see you in a few weeks, my dear.

Till then, with love,

Nana
